Carol Whitlatch, PhD

Areas of Expertise: Family Caregiving, Caregiver Stress, Decision-making Involvement of Individuals with Dementia, Early-stage Dementia Interventions
For over 25 years, Dr. Whitlatch has studied a variety of topics related to family caregiving including: developing and evaluating intervention programs including the SHARE program (Support, Health, Activities, Resources and Education); choice and decision making in caregiver-care receiver dyads; and autonomy and functioning in African American caregiving families. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University's Department of Sociology and served from 1997-2012 as an Adjunct Professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Dr. Whitlatch served on the Editorial Boards of Aging and Mental Health and Generations from 2012-2016. She earned her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University.
