Meet Our Client: Renee
With a degree in social work administration and a career in outside sales and advertising, Renee was on track for a comfortable life. But after facing issues with her health, family, and home, Renee was struggling—physically and emotionally.
Her experience in social work inspired Renee to visit agencies for help. And her established relationship with Cynthia Walker, a benefits counselor at Benjamin Rose, was instrumental in securing assistance with her utilities. Eventually, it also helped Renee get direct in-home counseling. She met Douglas Braun, a licensed independent social worker, who has been part of the social work and behavioral health services team at Benjamin Rose for 35 years.
Since April 2022, Doug has helped Renee develop coping strategies; provided emotional support; addressed situational issues and personal stressors; and assisted with apartment applications and the moving process.
Physical and mental health issues make it difficult for Renee, now age 68, to leave her home, so Doug’s willingness to come to her means everything. By coming to her home, Doug has been able to see firsthand some of what Renee is dealing with.
“Doug is very professional and supportive which is vital to my ability to function. He’s my sanity, my voice of reason and kindness—he lets me talk things through,” says Renee. “Doug has taught me ways to control my stress, and has been a major contributor to lowering my blood pressure and improving my overall health. Most importantly, Doug has been instrumental in my having a roof over my head.”
