I didn’t sign up for a ride, but I can come to the Center now. Can the driver pick me up?
A: No. All rides to the Center must be planned ahead of time with the staff.
Can someone under 60 use Senior Transportation Connection (STC)?
A: No, unless they’re part of a senior center group trip that allows individuals under 60 to ride.
How many rides can I get each month?
A: You can get one round trip each week for individual ride requests (medical, personal).
Can I schedule a ride to the gym?
A: Yes, if:
- You live in Cleveland
- The gym is in Cleveland
- The gym is less than 8 miles from your home
Be sure to schedule both pickup and return times.
Getting to the Center
Can I still get a ride to and from the Center every day?
A: Yes. Sign up at the Center for daily rides.
I live outside Cleveland. Can I get a ride to the Center or a doctor’s appointment?
A: Yes, you can still get a ride to the Center. If you need a ride to the doctor or a personal appointment, it will depend on where you live. Call your city for details.
Doctor Appointments
Can I get a ride to Metro, Lutheran, McCafferty, or W. 150th MetroHealth?
A: Yes, if the trip is 8 miles or less from your home.
I live in Cleveland and need to go to Metro Hospital. Will it cost anything?
A: No. Rides within Cleveland are free.
Can I go to a doctor outside Cleveland?
A: Yes, if the trip is 8 miles or less. It will cost $1.25 each way.
My appointment is next week. Can I still schedule a ride?
A: Yes. Call at least one week ahead. If no rides are open, you can be added to a waiting list.
What if my appointment is late or finishes early?
A: Call STC at 216-265-1489. If you are early, we will try to send a driver if one is nearby. If you are running late, call to let us know so we can adjust the pickup time.
Other Errands
Can I get a ride to the bank or post office?
A: Yes. These are called individual rides. You must schedule ahead of time. The location must be in Cleveland.
Can the driver stop to get my medicine on the way home from the Center or grocery store?
A: No. Please schedule a separate ride. We recommend signing up for mail delivery of your prescriptions.
Can I go to the Social Security office outside Cleveland?
A: Yes, if the office is 8 miles or less from your home.
Group Trips and Events
How do I get to the grocery store?
A: Sign up at the Center for the group grocery trip.
How often will there be grocery trips from the Center? Is there a cost?
A: Grocery trips happen three times a week and are free if part of a group trip. You can also request an individual grocery ride through the City of Cleveland.
Can we go to the park for hikes or group activities?
A: Yes. The Center will plan these trips as group events.
Will there still be special trips like going to a museum?
A: Yes. These are called special excursions and are planned by the Activities Director.
Costs and How to Pay
How much does a ride cost in Cleveland?
A: Rides are free if:
- You live in Cleveland
- Your trip is within Cleveland
- The trip is 8 miles or less
Note: STC does not provide rides over 8 miles, even if you remain within Cleveland.
How much does it cost to leave Cleveland?
A: If the trip is 8 miles or less, the cost is $1.25 each way.
How do I pay? Can the driver give me change?
A: Bring exact change. Drivers cannot provide change. Or, you can sign up for a quarterly bill by calling STC.
Rules and Cancellations
Will the driver wait if I’m not ready?
A: Drivers can arrive 10 minutes before or after your scheduled time. Once the driver lets you know they’ve arrived, you have 5 minutes to come outside.
What if I need to cancel my ride?
A: Call 216-265-1489 before 7 a.m. on the day of your trip. If you don’t call, it’s considered a no-show. Too many no-shows in a short period of time may temporarily suspend your riding privileges.
