BENJAMIN ROSE RESEARCH SCIENTIST HONORED AS RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR

Carol J. Whitlatch, PhD, Senior Research Scientist and Assistant Director of the Center for Research and Education at Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging, will receive the Researcher of the Year award at the annual conference of the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education. The conference is April 4-5 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

The OAGE Researcher Award recognizes individuals in Ohio's aging network whose research has advanced knowledge in gerontology and/or related disciplines that have improved services for older adults, advanced knowledge of the aging process, or supported the expansion of research in the aging field in Ohio or nationally.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Whitlatch has studied a variety of topics related to family caregiving including: developing and evaluating intervention programs including the SHARE program (Support, Health, Activities, Resources and Education); choice and decision making in caregiver-care receiver dyads; and autonomy and functioning in African American caregiving families. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University's Department of Sociology and served from 1997-2012 as an Adjunct Professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Dr. Whitlatch served on the Editorial Boards of Aging and Mental Health and Generations from 2012-2016. She earned her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University. In 2018, she was recognized with the M. Powell Lawton Award from the Gerontological Society of America.
